The Day I Died: Can Science Provide Proof for Life After Death?

Can the mind survive the death of the body and does life exist after death? These are questions central to many of the world’s religions faiths. Can science provide answers to these questions?

“The Day I Died” is one of the very few documentaries concerning the Near Death Experience (NDE) that has really aroused my interest to point of taking a serious look at the scientific research going on in this fringe science. This documentary highlights the serious yet somewhat controversial scientific research being conducted on Out of Body Experiences (OBEs) and Near Death Experiences (NDEs).

I was especially intrigued by the contentious work of physicist Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff concerning the Quantum nature of human consciousness. Their work is leading us into a neo-Cartesian view of the fundamental nature of human consciousness. They contend that the mind is not an emergent property of the biological activity of the human brain but, something outside of it.

According to Penrose and Hameroff the mind is an emergent manifestation of the very fabric of the space-time continuum itself at the Quantum level and the human brain just a receiver and conduit of consciousness. Could their research provide the scientific basis for the prevalent and universal religious belief and heartfelt hope that the mind can survive beyond death’s door? Or, is this an illusion created by the brain while dying resulting from the sudden and random spasms of numerous neurons firing at once in a brain starved of oxygen as Susan Blackmore and others argue.

Is it wishful thinking that the mind can survive the body after we die? Or can science provide us with a certain measure of reassurance concerning the here after. Join us today on Discovery-Enterprise as we prepare to take a journey into the light and beyond death itself…….

I have seen the movie and its great. Also think that Hammeroff and Penrose are on the frontline of new discoveries as consciousness is were it is at in the future. Hope soon to see proof of extra dimensions at CERN.

The challange to Blackmore and classical science is how people with flat EEG and no brain activity can report clear consciousness in the NDE.
